My favorite Haruki Murakami short story. Not too sure who translated it, but pretty accurate translation.
This is some old translating I’ve done back in 2009 on Haruki Murakami’s Novels. Bringing it back for a minute

“The thing Watanabe and I have in common is that we don’t have the urge to be understood by others,” Nagasawa-san said. “Thats the difference between us and the others. Every one else around us is working their asses off to be understood by their peers. But I’m not that kind of person, nor is Watanabe. We don’t care if we aren’t understood. We are who we are, they are who they are.”
“Is that true?” Hatsumi-san asked me.
“No way,” I said “I’m not that strong of a human. Its not like I believe that I dont care what people think about me. I do have a person I want to be recognized by. Its just that I feel like I can’t do anything about everyone else if they don’t understand me to some extent. In other words, I’ve given up…”
